(More customer reviews)I loved Strawberry Shortcake dolls when I was a kid, and had many along with other things like a sleeping bag, stroller, bathing suit, etc. I am missing most of my originals, and having bought some vintage dolls online it really isn't the same. They've either lost their scent, are in damaged boxes, or show signs of age even if NIB. It's great to have brand new dolls again.
These look very similar to the originals. There are details that differ, but not very noticeable to casual collectors. (For example, which dolls had flat hands and which didn't). Raspberry Tart was always my favorite, so it is great to see her in the set. For some reason they chose to include the Party Pleaser Orange Blossom, and at first I was disappointed. But now I think this one is cuter than the original outfit. Strawberry looks just like I remember her, so cute in the original sweet version rather than the "hipper" version of modern years. They smell really nice, just like the originals. The 25th anniversary Cabbage Patch Kids were scented with something that resembled bad strong perfume, nothing like the originals. I'm glad this one is right. There are little holes in the front window so that you can smell the scents without even opening the box. What a trip back to childhood in the 80s with these dolls.
I think they should have included the pets, or at least Strawberry's cat, Custard. Other than that, it is a great nostalgia piece, a fun toy to have if you remember them from the 80s, and also a great toy for children to play with now. Strawberry has been around for a long time, but I consider this to be her real comeback, if you want to call it that, because she's changed so much over the years that it didn't really even feel like SSC so much anymore. They tried to make her look hip to appeal to little kids of the past decade, sometimes making her look very odd, but I think kids today would like the original look if given the chance.
I hope they come out with another set that has Blueberry Muffin, Lemon Meringue, and Angel Cake...and maybe some pets! I also hope that they will be available in stores...I couldn't find them anywhere except online, which turned out good, but I'd like to pick them out in person. Totally worth buying if you can find them. I had heard about their release months before they were available, and checked everywhere until I finally came across them.
The value of these dolls has gone up quite a bit as they proved to be elusive in stores and sold out quickly online. I was lucky that I purchased more than one set when they were at regular price.
