Barbie & Chelsea (looks like a Kelly Girl) actually can stand on their own just like the picture as long as they're supported by the little plastic holders. Otherwise, you have to assist in their poses which is ok. They're movable, posable, & cute. I'm glad I bought it. Note: everything is the usual plastic except the mirror. It's a very thin cardboard with a reflective mirror sticker on it & a little plastic stand for it. My granddaughters are gentle with toys so the mirror will be okay, but it would've been better to be a plastic mirror. At least you can see yourself in the mirror. That said, it's still a fantastic deal for all the items, the dolls wearing their cute outfits & the ballet barres. Assembly of this toy is quick & easy. Playtime can begin within 5 min. after opening the box. btw, I removed the packaging carefully so I could cut out 3 little cartoon pictures on the cardboard box of the dolls as a little decoration for the ballerina play. (Sometimes the barbie illustrations on the packaging is so cute that I cut & save those before tossing the rest of the packaging in the recycle bin. The girls always like having little pictures to set up as "pictures", "magazines", "books", "posters", or "cards").
