If you have never built a dollhouse from a kit beware. There are TONS of pieces to be painted before any construction can begin and you need lots of space to organize and layout. If you like putting furniture together, etc, then this is probably something you will enjoy. This kit is very well made and all the pieces fit together very well but I think the biggest selling point is the [...] website. They have excellent step-by-step instructions here [...] that by far surpass the instructions provided in the kit. Without those this would have been much, much more difficult. My husband and I estimate we spent about 30 hours putting this together. This does not include any decorating except painting inside/out.
On top of the dollhouse kit you will need to buy all the paint, a small saw for cutting the trim, sandpaper, brushes, shingle dye (we used regular stain from lowes), aleenas glue, non-water based glue for shingles (we used welders), razor scraper for cutting shingles. We got this kit at hobby lobby for about $105 (after a 40% off coupon printed from their website) so shop around.
If I attempt to tackle another house it will probably be a bit smaller, probably the Princess Anne.
