Yes, this Barbie is quite expensive. However, if you closely examine the delicate "beading" on her evening gown or the quality of the fabrics used, you can more easily understand the high price. "Stunning in the Spotlight" is a higher-end version of the 1960s "Solo in the Spotlight" doll (which I also possess.) This Barbie is from the Fashion Model collection of Barbie, which means she is made of Silkstone instead of ordinary Barbie vinyl. This material gives her body a heavy, more detailed look and is much more elegant than ordinary vinyl. Also, the little details (her great microphone and stand, her lovely dangling rhinestone earrings, the heavily-made-up brown eyes and her long black evening gloves) make her impossible to ignore on a shelf full of dolls. Mine came with a certificate (of the 50th Anniversary of Barbies) and her own, clear plastic stand. The box is characteristic of the higher-end Mattel boxes (heavier cardboard, vintage Barbie artwork, etc.) As a collector, I would recommend her only to Barbie collectors. She is definitely NOT for younger children to play with (and I'm not sure that Silkstones fit all the Barbie clothing, anyway.) Her gown and floor-length silken stole are much more "designer-inspired" than the 1960s originals. I plan to display mine in a glass case next to the "original" one for comparison. What you cannot notice in a photo is that the evening gown has tiny ruched fabric and many, many "jewels" (like black plastic sequins) on it. Since I put her on display in my living room, many visitors have said, "Wow. I've never seen a Barbie doll that fancy. Where'd you find her?" Again, not for kids, but GREAT for collectors!
