(More customer reviews)I'm a doll collector, but not a very traditional one....I OPEN the dolls I buy, because I like to re-dress them in different outfits and display them in various dioramas.
This doll in particular, was very pleased with the way it looked. Stunning in her white, shimmering gown. Not to mention her beautiful face with piercing blue eyes. I was excited when I bought this doll and couldn't wait for her to arrive. However, once she arrived and I took her out of her box, I was a little disappointed.
The doll has some strange sticky substance on her legs. I couldn't figure out what it was at first. It didn't have a foul smell or anything. And when I say the legs were covered with it, they were COVERED with it. It took 3 washes in the sink just to get all of it off, and even then there was still some tacky feel to the legs.
Upon research, I found that the stuff may be plasticizer, which is harmful (if ingested) and is more prone to happen with dolls made in Indonesia. My doll was in fact, made in Indonesia. I bought another Holiday Excitement Barbie from eBay (again, made in Indonesia) and she too has the sticky leg problem. I have yet to find any Holiday Excitement dolls made in China. As far as I know, the doll is made in Indonesia, and the bracelet is made in China.
In conclusion, either the sticky substance is plasticizer, or it is some strange lubricant Mattel uses to make the skin-tight dress fit with ease. I like this doll because of her looks, but don't "love" it because of her sticky leg problem. BUYER BEWARE: Do not buy this doll for little children, because you don't know what could happen if they got the stuff in their mouth. This doll is better kept in her box if you plan to buy her.
