Barbie Collector Farrah Fawcett Doll Review

Barbie Collector Farrah Fawcett Doll

I was a huge fan of Farrah when I was a small child and always wanted a Farrah made by Mattel. I did have two versions of a Farrah doll made by a different company at the time and they featured accurate facial sculpts, rendered somehow rather hideous with nasty textured hair and on a body with funny stork thin shapeless legs. The same could be said of yet another doll of Farrah rendered in miniature. But I took what I could get.
So, I was very excited to hear Mattel was finally going to issue a Farrah doll. I have a small child of my own now and we play Barbies together. I was looking forward to a version I could play with along with my daughter, after all these DECADES! Unfortunately Farrah is frozen in her famous bathing suit poster pose. She is for display purposes only and that limits my enjoyment of her.
However, adult collectors will appreciate the excellent facial sculpting. Some pictures make it appear that the head is disproportionately huge in relation to the body but in person, this is not the case. The head IS a little bit large but Farrah did have a large strong square jaw in real life.
They did an excellent job capturing her eyes, the shape of her brows, the unique hook of her nose, and her cleft chin. My doll has some dark streaks in her hair as in the original poster. I have seen photos of very platinum hair, which is highly inaccurate representation of Farrah's hair at that time. So, buyer beware if you are a stickler for accuracy.
The suit is accurate. The blanket is spot-on accurate. Her graceful signature adorns the front of the plastic box.
If you are thinking of, as some people have suggested on some forums, of popping her head off and putting it on a poseable body, be aware her eyes gaze off to her right, not straight ahead. And I'm not sure how her head would fit on existing body molds that I'm familiar with.
I started rating this doll only 3 stars because it's not poseable, but I realized that was not fair. In no way is this doll advertised as poseable. They state quite clearly she is frozen in position. The quality and sculpting are superb. They captured her look very well. The hair is not the true "Farrah Cut" that we all know and love, but it is pretty, and mine is the accurate color, which was a pleasant surprise.
Oh one last complaint--the paint for her "lipstick" slightly bleeds over onto the teeth. She has "lipstick teeth". Its at the periphery and can be overlooked unless you are REALLY particular.
Summary:
Pros: Accurate Hair color
Accurate facial sculpt
Excellent copy of the look on the original poster.
Peeves: Not poseable
Haircut is not the real Farrah style, not even close
Lipstick teeth.

My daughter waited and waited to get this present and she was so excited when it finally arrived. My only concern is the durability of the costume. My dtr has taken the facemask off several times and I fear the next time she removes it, it may tear. Other than that we are very pleased with this item.

In 1969, Mattel introduced another doll into Barbie's ever-expanding world of family and friends. Stacey was Barbie's swingin' best friend from London, complete with a wardrobe of colourful, specially-designed Mod fashions! This Gold Label collector's edition (limited to 7,700 pieces worldwide) brings back the Stacey doll along with her "Nite Lightning" fashion ensemble.
Stacey comes dressed in a bright print swimsuit, with her red hair styled into a short flip. Just like the original doll, she has real rooted eyelashes and a Twist 'n' Turn waist. The "Nite Lightning" ensemble consists of a royal blue satin "swing" coat with puffed sleeves and sparkly brooch decoration, and a metallic "shag" dress. Matching blue stockings and low-heeled shoes complete her trendy Mod look. A re-print of an original Barbie fashion booklet from the period is also included, along with the COA and dollstand.

Barbie Collector My Favorite Barbie - Barbie and Her Wig Wardrobe Review

How fun to have this reproduction of my much-loved doll from the childhood Barbie years! She looks exactly like the Barbie I remember. Although she was glam for the time, it always bothered me that she didn't have hair, so I would put her in the blonde bubblecut wig which is probably what was most popular in 1963. My fave outfit for this Barbie was the Barbie Career Girl, which was an elegant fashion of a sort of tweedy suit with elbow-length gloves. What a joy to find out that they reissued the blonde bubblecut with that very fashion as a "dressed doll" reproduction in about 2006. I love that Mattel is doing these very-successful reproduction dolls and clothes. I don't know how they hold up with a kid's handling but, for us adults, they are lovely dolls to display. Sentimental, enjoyable, collectable and very special for us baby boomers and anybody else. Thank you, Mattel! And thank you to Amazon sellers, as I've been able to catch up my collection with the various advertised repros from the past fifteen years which I'd missed before I knew Mattel had introduced them. I don't know why it's so comforting to have my reproduction Barbies...but it is!
