(More customer reviews)My 4 year old is a huge Dora fan, so the light sketcher stencils attracted me, however the reviews of the light sketcher made me hesitant to buy. I decided to take a chance on this alternative, and I'm glad I did. The pen is not attached and is very easy to use. The board is simple (no distracting flashing lights), and double sided. One side has a tic tac toe board, and a printed girl to dress with provided stencils. The other is a free-draw blank area which is plenty large enough for all stencil sets (we have Dora and Diego, plus the ones that come with it, each about 3 in. by 4 in.). The pictures do disappear rather quickly, but there is plenty of time to complete a stencil because the pen can be held back at a distance to cover the whole picture. Also, this means there isn't a huge drawing area necessary, so this version has plenty of space (at least 10in high by 8 across of free space on the back). My 4 year old is capable of doing it without frustration, though it is probably best suited for a slightly older age (5-9).It seems all the complaints in the reviews of the regular light sketcher are resolved with this version. I recommend it.
